Advancing Knowledge

resurrection

I’m reading a couple of books right now on the historical evidence for Jesus.  Both of them are excellent.

The feeling I’ve had while reading these books is one of deep gratitude.  The scholarship represented by these works is tremendous.

It wasn’t that long ago that scholarship of this type, which truly advances our knowledge, was dominated by those skeptical towards the claims of historic Christianity.  Christian traditionalists were in the main on the defensive.

I’m encouraged that these scholars have been able to build upon the true and lasting elements of historical critical scholarship, while convincingly showing the historical basis for traditional Christian claims.

I feel blessed to live at such a time and look forward to more to come.  I anticipate the day when Christianity will command increasing respect in the academy as a worldview based on evidence.

The books I’m reading:

The Resurrection of Jesus: A New Historiographical Approach

The Historical Jesus of the Gospels

Another excellent book:

Jesus and the Eyewitnesses: The Gospels as Eyewitness Testimony
